For Houston food lovers, August has become something of a culinary holiday. Houston Restaurant Weeks returns August 1 through Labor Day, September 7, bringing together hundreds of restaurants, specially priced menus and one very good reason to venture beyond your usual neighborhood.
The month-long celebration also serves a larger purpose, raising money for the Houston Food Bank while encouraging Houstonians to explore their own city—one table at a time.

For the adventurous, Kitchen Rumors in the Sixth Ward takes Indian flavors in decidedly unexpected directions. Chef Jassi Bindra combines tradition with playful experimentation in dishes that have included butter chicken ramen, blue-cheese chicken kebabs and lobster dumplings. This is Restaurant Weeks for diners interested in discovering something they probably haven’t tasted before.
Silk Road, near West University, brings a contemporary sensibility to dim sum, making its $25 Restaurant Weeks lunch especially attractive. Xiao long bao, siu mai, crystal shrimp dumplings and char siu are among the possibilities. It is the kind of lunch that manages to feel like both an experience and a bargain.
For sushi lovers, Soto in Montrose deserves a place on the list. Its $25 lunch is one of the more intriguing values of Restaurant Weeks, offering an introduction to the restaurant’s refined Japanese cooking at a price that makes experimenting particularly tempting.
