Crux Climbing Center is now open in Houston’s East End
Crux Climbing Center, the Texas-owned climbing, fitness and yoga gym, is now open at The Plant in Second Ward. The 21,000-square-foot space is Crux’s first outside the Austin area and was purpose-built for Houston’s fast-growing climbing community, drawing on nearly a decade of member feedback and experience running its Austin gyms. The gym has bouldering, training boards, a spray wall, strength training areas, a yoga studio, locker rooms with saunas, a kids’ area, and a retail shop.
Founders are Houston native Kevin Goradia and co-founder Grace Nicholas
-
Growing without losing community: Crux has grown from one Austin gym in 2016 to four locations. Kevin and Grace can share how they’ve kept community first, from member-driven design to year-round social events.
-
A neighborhood hangout for the East End: Crux is dog-friendly, a natural fit for walkable Second Ward and the Zoomies dog park across the street. Local artists also painted murals throughout the gym.
-
An easy way to try it: A day pass is $26, monthly memberships start at $94.99, and first-timers can buy a “Come to Crux” package of five day passes for $75, to be used within 30 days.
-
Beating the Houston heat: With summer temperatures hanging on, Crux offers a fully air-conditioned way to stay active, with bouldering, strength training and yoga under one roof.
-
A low-impact, all-in-one workout: Climbing builds strength and problem-solving skills, and the on-site yoga studio, training areas and saunas make Crux a one-stop option for anyone looking for a new gym routine in the area.
