First Saturday Arts Market Continues in Houston Heights on October 4 The First Saturday Arts Market, Houston’s original monthly outdoor fine art market, returns on October 4, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 540 W. 19th Street, Houston, TX 77008.

Houston has no shortage of outdoor markets, no one will deny that. From weekly pop-ups to night markets, there’s a vibe for every taste, style, or trend. Yet, First Saturday carves out a distinct niche, showcasing 30 to 50 artist exhibitors each month from September through May, blending fine art, paintings, jewelry, ceramics, photography, and glass, with functional and craft pieces that pack a unique edge.
What sets this market apart? Its artist-led jury process, a rarity in the festival world. Founder and Heights-based painter Mitch Cohen credits the exhibitors for its staying power. “When I started letting artists jury new applicants, the standards soared,” Cohen said. “I’m a painter, so I leaned on their expertise, especially in mediums like jewelry, to ensure everything is handmade and exceptional.” Inspired by the Eugene Saturday Market in Oregon, where participating artists jury their peers, First Saturday’s model embraces a curated mix of fine art, and some innovative craft. “Our artists love having a voice, it’s a game-changer,” Cohen added.
Set in the Historic Houston Heights, the market fosters meaningful connections between artists and Houstonians. Visitors can sip craft beverages from Houston Cider Company and Vivre Coffee Collective while diving into a dynamic, open-air showcase of Houston’s creative scene. Admission is free, making it a family-friendly cornerstone of the city’s cultural landscape.
