Upper Kirby gained a dose of international polish as Marel Houston officially opened its doors at 3600 Kirby with a vibrant celebration infused with Brazilian spirit, perfectly timed to the start of Carnival. Drawing a lively crowd of more than 150 guests eager to experience the stylish new design destination, the new showroom – bookended by Kata Robata and Westheimer Plumbing & Hardware – is the brand’s first in Texas and third in the U.S., following two locations in Florida, and sits at the center of a growing design corridor.

Designed to feel more like a residence than a traditional showroom, the 2,200-squarefoot space introduces Marel’s signature mix of sleek cabinetry, furnishings, and lifestyle solutions for kitchens, living areas, offices and beyond. Since launching in the 1960’s, the brand is known for its lacquered finishes and an impressive palette of more than 2,000 color options.

The opening night leaned joyfully into a festival mood. DJ Sun spun tropical beats while the team behind internationally inspired De Fortune lounge mixed Brazil’s national cocktail, the Caipirinha.

Houston owner Wilson Bortolucci Filho and Brazil-based associate Conrado Evangelista welcomed attendees amid colorful samba-inspired touches, and fresh produce sourced from Urban Harvest’s weekly Saturday farmers market at nearby St. John’s School. The partnership continues beyond opening night, with a portion of future sales benefiting the Houston nonprofit’s efforts to expand access to fresh food across the city.
