An Unforgettable Evening of Laughter, Hope, and Impact
The Broach Foundation for Brain Cancer Research hosted its 14th Annual Stand Up for Brain Cancer Gala at the elegant River Oaks Country Club. The evening featured a special headlining performance by award-winning comedian Pete Holmes, delivering a night filled with laughter, community, and purpose.
Co-Founder Jamie Broach Bryd, alongside her husband Jeff Bryd and their children, warmly welcomed guests during a pre-reception that set the tone for an inspiring and heartfelt evening.
The ballroom was beautifully transformed in shades of soft pink, accented with lush floral arrangements that created a sophisticated and uplifting ambiance. Guests enjoyed a gourmet seated dinner before settling in for an unforgettable comedy performance. Pete Holmes had the audience roaring with laughter, bringing levity and joy to a cause rooted in resilience and hope.
More than 400 guests attended the sold-out event, including notable supporters Jamie Broach Bryd, Jeff Bryd, Mistress of Ceremonies Ilona Carson and Jim Colosanto, Greg and Jamie Grissom, Holly and Hunter Stewart, Andy and Ashlee Veit, Jennifer and Michael Dellinger, Corey and David Le Norman, Deanna, Bryan and Blake Kotrla, Jan Bres, Jennifer and Farzad Askari, Anita O’Shaunghnessy, Lindsey and Tray Black, Carrie and Tom Field, Megan Davis, and many others who continue to champion the foundation’s mission.
Pete Holmes, widely recognized for his stand-up specials, television work, and his popular podcast You Made It Weird, brought his signature humor and authenticity to the stage, creating a memorable highlight of the evening.
The Broach Foundation for Brain Cancer Research was established in honor of James Broach, who was first diagnosed with a Grade II astrocytoma in October 2010, followed by a diagnosis of an aggressive form of brain cancer, glioblastoma, in 2011. Throughout his journey, James endured numerous surgeries, radiation treatments, chemotherapy, and experimental trials. Despite these challenges, he remained committed to making a meaningful impact in the fight against brain cancer.
Together with his wife, Jamie, James helped lay the foundation for what would become a powerful force in advancing research and awareness. Today, the organization continues that mission, funding innovative and cutting-edge research initiatives focused on adult brain cancer—an area that remains critically underfunded. To date, the foundation has raised more than $7 million in support of this vital work.
James Broach passed away on August 26, 2013, but his legacy endures through the lives touched and the research advanced by the foundation.
“James was truly an inspiration to all who knew him,” said Jamie Broach Bryd. “Although he understood that the research might not come in time to help him, he was determined to help others. He believed that by accelerating funding for promising research, we could bring us closer to a cure—and that mission continues today.”
